More than 200 people from ten countries joined the UK’s only UK-India coproduction market, with more than 80 meetings arranged for the selected film makers.
This year’s Film Conclave, part of the annual India Week, continues to establish itself as one of the UK’s growing hubs for UK–India collaboration across film, television and international co-production. The event is organised by advisory firm EPG and film and arts programming consultancy ReelN and held in partnership with Integrity International Group and LycaRadio.
The daytime featured discussions on coproduction treaties and policies that make the UK a world-class filming destination, and exploring funding and commissioning pathways for documentaries and feature films. Entertainment journalist Anuj Radia hosted Q&As with actor Nitin Ganatra OBE (Eastenders, Accused, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory) and Priyanshu Painyuli (Extraction, Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, Mirzapur, Rashmi Rocket).
One of filmmakers who project was selected said of the event: “This year, I had seven meetings and honestly, felt like three of them could get my funding closed in a week. It was that good.”
Out of the 16 projects selected, there was a strong focus on indie filmmakers with incredible stories that had displayed commercial acumen in earlier projects and whose submitted projects could cater to global audiences.
Other participants included Monisha Advani (Founder Partner of Emmay Entertainment); Emile Nawagamuwa (Commissioning Editor at UKTV); Anushka Shah (Founder and CEO of Civic Studios), Yu-Fai Suen (Founder of Berkeley Media Group) and Michelle Jenkins (Head of Production Services at Film London).
Speaking about the programme, Aman Dhillon, Founding Director of ReelN, said:
“Following the strong turnout at last year’s Film Conclave, we are proud to return with a second edition that expands in both scope and ambition. This year’s programme brings together a diverse mix of funders, investors, production companies, and creative voices, reflecting the growing momentum of UK–India collaboration.
At a time when co-productions between the two regions are becoming increasingly significant, the conversations and connections fostered here feel more relevant than ever.”
The event was part of the annual India Week, which saw more than 1,600 people attend nine sold-out events across London, with leading policy, journalism, business and film figures attending. London Chamber of Commerce and Industry CEO Karim Fatehi said at a joint reception that India Week was “the leading platform for UK-India trade and investment.” Speakers and attendees across the Week included Sir Vince Cable, Michelin-starred chef Atul Kochhar, music producer Rishi Rich, Prince of Mewar Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, Lord Karan Bilimoria, London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) CEO Karim Fatehi OBE, senior venture capitalists Raja Ganapathy and Stewart Langdon, and others.
